You might say it all came from an idea in the mind of Tamio Kobata who was founder of SODC.
He was born in Tokyo in September 1945. He graduated from the Faculty of Economics, Gakushuin University. In 1968 he went to work for Dentsu Inc., the world's largest advertisement agency. While there he focused on developing marketing and advertising campaigns for international companies. Over the years he helped many leading international firms find success in the Japanese market, and was involved in the launches of many hot selling products.
In 2002, he came across Roomba, a robotic vacuum cleaner developed by the U.S.-based iRobot Corporation. Through a business partner he made direct contact with the company's management. In 2003, he signed an agreement with the CEO of iRobot, Colin Angle to promote market Roomba.
In 2004, he established Sales On Demand Corporation to be the exclusive distributor of iRobot's roomba products in Japan.
